What is the Tenniskids program?

The Tenniskids program is based on four color stages: Blue, Red, Orange, and Green. In each stage, children are challenged in ways that suit their age and playing ability. Blue is intended for children aged 4 to 6 who are introduced to moving and playing with rackets and balls in a playful way. Red is for children from 6 to 9 years old, with smaller courts and extra soft balls. Orange is suitable for kids aged 8 to 11 who are ready to explore a larger court. Green is the final stage, where players use almost full-size courts and standard green balls.

The four Tenniskids stages

In the Blue stage, the focus is on coordination and movement, usually using large foam balls on small courts. In the Red stage, children play with low-bouncing red balls, making rallies easier to play. Orange tennis introduces a slightly bigger court and faster balls than in the Red stage, ideal for developing technique. In the Green stage, players use slightly softer versions of standard competition balls on nearly full-size courts. This structure makes the transition to regular tennis smooth and enjoyable for every child.

Tennis rackets for young players

Rackets for Tenniskids come in various lengths, usually ranging from 17 to 26 inches. Children in the Blue or Red stage use lighter rackets between 17 and 21 inches, making it easier for them to swing and hit the ball. In the Orange stage, they typically switch to rackets between 23 and 25 inches. Players in the Green stage can already train with junior rackets of 25 or 26 inches. These are slightly heavier but still easy to handle. Choosing the right racket length is essential for good technique and helps prevent strain in young tennis players.

Tennis balls for each stage

Ball selection is crucial in Tenniskids. For the Blue stage, we use large foam balls that offer safety and control. In the Red stage, balls are smaller and softer, with about 75% less pressure than regular tennis balls. Orange balls have around 50% less pressure and are used on three-quarter courts. In the Green stage, the balls are only slightly softer than standard ones, making them perfect for learning to play on a full court.
